Taken with my iPhone and processed with Kim's textures Elevate and Trust |
I was so looking forward to playing around with textures for Texture Tuesday, and today's rule to simply use 2 of Kim's textures on one's photo gave so much opportunity for play... and here I am - totally frustrated with my photos and my use of textures.
However happy I am when snapping photos with my iPhone, I tend to get more and more frustrated when uploading them on my computer, let alone trying to process them. I always loved to play around with textures, but now I can't decide which textures to use, try around almost endlessly and then I don't like the results.
I still love taking photos with my iPhone, but I also notice that I take different photos with my iPhone than with my DSLR, photos I'm not sooo satisfied with most of the time. Well, maybe it's just my impatience to be able to get going again with my Canon... but I do hope to get back that feeling of satisfaction after playing with textures and loving the photos I take.
Though I'm not really happy with my photo today, I'll still put it up here so as not to lose the routine of posting that I'm trying to get into again.
Have a wonderful week everyone!

Pretty pink Peonies??? I totally understand the frustration of taking pics and then finding something was off with the settings you chose. I have a new Canon Powershot I got in the Spring and do not spend enough time using it so when I do it's like starting all over again. Glad you posted this one.
I know what you mean about which textures to use, only my frustration is liking so many different combos. I think you did a lovely job with this, it has really nice soft tones to it.
I think its beautiful Rosie...I love the background too with the green moss between the cracks in the stones.
I feel your frustration too at times, but it surely doesn't show in this fabulous handling of flowers. Gorgeous! Keep working through it!
I think this is a truly lovely image, and you did a fine job with the textures! Hope you find a way to use your iPhone for photos that satisfy you. Have you tried the apps for the iPhone? There are so many, and some add textures for you. I really like Photo Toaster, it's super easy to use. Keep snapping, Rosie!
Rosie, I think this is beautiful!
I love the fact that the image is not heavily textured. Although I don't know what the original looked like, it looks as if the textures you've chosen simply lightens it up a bit. I like that!
Like you, the photos I take with my iPhone are very different than the ones I take with my "big" camera, but for the most part, there is also far less thought that goes into it for me, and I really kind of like that difference.
xo.
You're feeling the same way I felt last year concerning textures. So you know what? I just decided that my photos would speak for themselves without too much work in PS. As a result, I'm enjoying photography much more. Sometimes if something is frustrating you, step back and take a break from it. iPhone photos are usually my Plan B. While I might be satisfied with the results, it's just not as fun as shooting with my dslr. Hang in there, Rosie! You are a wonderful photographer. Your pink flower is big and beautiful!
I really like your picture of the lovely pink flowers.
I can't comment on the textures though 'cause I have never used any and I don't know how to.
I think this is such a pretty photo. But I know what you mean. Sometime I will try so many textures and I just don't like the way they look. Sometimes I just think the original looks best.
Hugs~
Lovely image, beautiful soft pinks. I know exactly what you mean about phone vs dslr - I tend to take different images on each too. Phone is great for capturing things I would otherwise miss, but I love the creative control of my dslr. I still love experimenting with both though and it still amazes me what it's possible to acheive with a phone camera!
I think this is beautiful! I used to spend so much time choosing just the right texture, now I just play. It's supposed to be fun!
Peonies-one of my faves.
I hear you on the texture thing. I don't do many and find I only think to use them when I feel an image needs "help" to be passable. I have found it almost doesn't matter which one you choose. If a picture needs warming I usually choose one of the lighter tan-ish ones. That's my only rule of thumb.
DO pick up that Canon again. It's not that hard to do and you'll be glad you did.
Hope all is well for you Rosie. Nice to see you back.
Just when I thought I had my dslr down - I went and bought a new camera and got an iPhone, now I'm struggling to learn them both.
Beautiful, love the colors!
oh dear I don't have photoshop and don't have textures or an iphone so can't help with any of the above but I think this is a lovely shot
They're beautiful. I love the color.
Hi Rosie, nice to meet you! I think this is beautiful.
I wish you good luck with your upcoming surgery (as I was reading further down) I too, might have to have surgery in two weeks, but we will see how things go.
Thank you for your lovely comment!
I haven't been using textures so much of late, preferring a more natural look to my photos. I love the color of these blooms. Delicious.
Actually, I think this is quite a good image from your i-phone. I have yet to get really into that, still stickin' with my big ol' heavy dslr, but I think it takes a better pic that I can ever get on my i-phone. Good to see you!!!
This is a beautiful image with lovely soft tones! I understand your frustration with textures sometimes I try so many on an image and nothing works, some images just don't suit textures! I love using my iPhone and playing with the apps!
Love the natural feel to this shot. Sometimes we are way too judgmental of ourselves. But I guess thats what keeps us striving for perfection :) I find it difficult to be out and about with my SLR in India so feel a little rusty. Whether its a compact or iphone its still about capturing something you like. Perhaps set yourself a small project with your cannon. Im sure you'll get back into it very quickly.
It's a lovely image! I know what you mean though; one day I was making really pretty art, then all of a sudden I had absolutely no vision. It's coming back though...so hang in there!
