From Our Hearts

I first read about the 1,000 cranes at Maureen's blog and then also at the Mortal Muses. Now, I'm not very talented when it comes to crafting, I'm all thumbs as soon as paper, scissors, glue and the likes are involved, but I decided to give it a try anyways, maybe just to have the feeling to be able to DO something.

Equipped with a nice piece of paper (maybe a little bit to thick) I started out with a video tutorial I had found at You Tube and was able to follow it up to a certain point and then I somehow missed how to turn and fold my paper. I was quite frustrated and told my husband about it over lunch. He offered to help me with it but I turned that offer down, knowing that such undertakings often end in a quarrel as ... ahem... I'm not always the most patient person... ;-)

Well, to cut it short, he took a piece of paper and a look at the video and started folding. I came up behind him, looking over his shoulder to see if he got it right, and then suddenly we were both peacefully folding our papers, helping each other over some difficulties and then - tada! - two cranes finished.

I processed the photo of our cranes with one of Kim Klassen's textures and I will link it up to Lisa's Creative Exchange, were you will find at least one other crane as I just discovered. As Lisa suggested, I will add our cranes to this flickr group and maybe you'd like to give it a try, too.

Have a great start into the week!

Just fantastic Rosie!!
Ii cannot tell you how I am smiling (actually laughing!) as I read about accepting help/ending up in a quarrel. You have no idea how well I know that one!! :-)
I love your cranes, and your photograph of them, and I thank you so much for sharing this today at The Creative Exchange.

Have a wonderful rest of the day!

Oh it's beautiful...and it's such a peaceful thing to do. I find my head completely clears when I"m doing origami.

Rosie, I have 1000 Cranes that my sister made for me when I got married several years ago. She strung them all together and we use them every year around our Christmas tree. I love them and they have lasted a very long time. It is supposed to bring good luck to the couple that you make them for. I don't know about luck, but they have certainly brought a sense of love from the creator.

So beautiful. What a lovely tribute. I know I'd be all thumbs, too. Good on you and your hubby for your contribution.

The ol' watching over the shoulder trick....good idea. Keeps the peace. I love this gentle image. I had a friend that folded cranes all the time in all sizes. He artfully used them for decor in many ways. You're a better woman that I. No paper for cranes, or thoughts to find a youtube tutorial.

It has a touch of the Loch Ness monster, your crane. Sorry :-)

How clever to photograph one as the shadow.

I just love how you shadowed them. Great composition..

Love your photo and your story, Rosie :)
I folded lots of these at Christmas and found it so calming just sitting folding paper- it takes just the right amount of concentration.

Beautiful and this is such a lovely idea. I'm going to give it a go. Do you think it will help at all if I start off with a piece of paper the size of a bed sheet? (I'm not brilliant at the fiddly and the small)! :D

Great work! Perseverence is key! And a helping hand is a blessing.

Maureen has a link on her flickr post today for emailing the crane to a company who is donating $5 for the first 1000 (I think) cranes and sending a collage of all the cranes.

I think you get an A+ for that. Great work! Your post made me giggle, it the type of thing I'd do. Although I don't think it would work out so harmonious as yours.

I keep saying I'm going to try this and haven't had the time to sit down and find a tutorial to learn. I think this is a wonderful, creative idea. Beautiful, Rosie!

I've never been very good at origami, but I very much appreciate those that can make these well. This is a wonderful crane. I really like the paper print.
