Dramatic November Start
Yesterday, Justine has challenged us to join her for a month of black and white photos during November. She didn't use the word "challenge" and maybe it's easy for you, but for me it's a real challenge! Not technically, as Photoshop Elements very conveniently offers the possibility to convert into black and white with a mouse click. My difficulty lies in my imagination - I can't foresee whether something colourful really looks good in black and white and mostly the photos turn out just dull.
I told Justine that I would join in not for the whole month but once in a while to use it as an opportunity for practice. So here is my first black and white photo - with a lot of help from nature, as a nearly leafless tree in front of an overcast sky presented itself almost perfectly in black and white already.

This is a lovely way to start a once-in-while b&w month! I tend to take rather bland b&w photos myself, but you don't have that problem at all! :) Hope you had a relaxing weekend and your week is off to a great start.
this is absolutely beautiful and so dramatic! I love this black and white, I have made a flickr group so hopefully I have sent you an invitation (all new to me).
Beautiful ...I love seeing tree silhouettes! I may join in with this occasionally but I'm afraid I'm addicted to colour so I'm not sure I can stay true to the spirit of this!
Beautiful black and white! And a great reminder that snow is on the horizon!!!
I like this a lot Rosie. It has a winter "feel" to it.
If you have the opportunity, pick up this month's Popular Photography. There is an article on just what you are describing (photos seeming dull). If you cannot pick up a copy, e-mail me, and I'll scan the article and send it to you. Lots of good info on B&W.
Beautiful B&W Rosie. Perfect for November!
Thanks for your welcome! I absolutely love this. It is amazing the amount of detail you can obtain with black and white.
It is a great shot.. But I do know what you mean. I have a hard time with B&W shots. I really should play around more with them..
Great photo Rosie. A good start in indeed. It speaks November. :)
